feat. GOD SPEED YOU ! BLACK EMPEROR & GROWING
When Pierre-Luc Vaillancourt (see the film section in this programme) told us about his friend Karl Lemieux's project for music performance based on film screening, we saw a good opportunity for a hybrid luff performance. An experienced short-film director, Karl co-founded with Daichi Saito the Montreal-based experimental film association Double-Negative. For over 10 years he has been working on image transformation with four 16-mm projectors, painting, burning, scratching and cutting film, with a most special live music section working out the soundtrack: David Bryant on the guitar, who is an experimental sound recorder, and founding member of avant-garde anticapitalist post-rock band Godspeed You ! Black Emperor (Constellation records-Kranky). Jonathan Parant, also a guitar player and composer known for his improvisations with Feux Thérèse (Constellation records), and Fly Pan Am (Constellations records), on keyboards. And NY bass player Kevin Doria, founder of instrumental noise-rock band Growing. We hear that an intrusion by David and Jonathan into the other community line-up of the evening cannot be ruled out.
