Music in Films

Music in Films is a space dedicated to films with a close relation to music, whether they are musical documentaries, biopic films, or other works made by or for musicians.

The restless Detroit band Destroy all Monsters holds a place of choice this year since it is present on almost every front of the festival: the MIF section will screen no less than three of Cary « Monster » Loren’s films, from his anarchistic, LSD-infused early works in Super8 to his later double-exposure experimentations. Banzaï Deroit , also by Loren, will be shown as part of the Monster War concert. We will stay in Motor City with I’m Gonna Do It Until the Day I Die, which investigates the mysterious disappearance punk band Mog Stunt Team, and then move on to Japan. The sublime footage of We Don’t Care About Music Anyway will take us around Tokyo’s sometimes gorgeous, sometimes hideous landscapes, following some of the capital’s Noise music artists. This little Japanese tour will end with a live performance by GOL, who will play during a screening of the amateur documentary film Whale Hunting (1948), a rough dive into the world of whale quartering.
