Illegal Art Symposium

- Mark Hosler
Sat. Oct. 22, 13:30
Venue: Cinéma Oblò
Free Entrance
Along with the exceptional conference by musician Mark Hosler, representative of the brilliant Negativland - sound collage experts and alternative copyright activists (and notably sued by U2 for having stolen away some tracks) -, the LUFF organizes a symposium for the first time. For this premiere, numerous speakers and activists of the San Francisco Bay Area have been invited to speak about their adventures and their practice of hacking cultural codes and/or audio and visual messages surrounding us on an everyday basis (advertising, all kinds of propaganda, cinema, music, etc.). Firstly we will discuss obscenity censorship, then the hallucinogenic power of the "sound" and "image" medium used in some avant-garde as well as commercial cinema. Secondly two masters at the hijacking of existing objects will present their practice of a recycling that is subject to capitalistic laws. At a time when, for example, Julian Assange develops tools to prevent some of those in power to erase the past in digital archives through the use of 'page not found', it seems important to get an update from the pioneers of activist 'found footage' – collectors and recyclers of analog products of modern capitalistic culture.
