French pioneers of experimental rock, this trio (Lionel Fernandez - from Discom, Deco, Büro and le placard, Erik Minkkinen and Nicola Sakamoto-Mazet) was founded at the beginning of the 90s. They became known for the way they savagely mutilate the energy of New York No Wave, paste together magnetic tape, explore their instruments through concrete music, by free rock and their first love: noise (Whitehouse, Boredoms, or Hanatarash). Until 1997, they segued from concert to concert alongside Sonic Youth, Faust, Melt Banana, US Mapple, Stereolab, The Ex, and Keiji Haino. From 1997 to 2004, geographically separated, they explored more digital possibilities, most noteably continuing collaborations with Lee Ranaldo and Evil Moisture. In 2004, they had a pressing need to come back to a purely electric energy and to reconnect with the harsh sounds of their beginnings, thus opening up to piercing guitar havoc and violent rhythms in performances esthetically as pallid as white noise. Their latest opus, Flame désastre, will be out in November on Mego.
