Music
Christine Sehnaoui and Andy Moor (The Ex)
Electric and free
Christine Sehnaoui and Andy Moor make up a rare duet.
On one side, a rising figure in the open mic music scene: the Lebanese-born and Paris-based, self-taught saxophonist Christine Sehnaoui. She works on sound texture and micro-intervals, relentlessly exploring the acoustic resources of her instrument using a wide-ranging array of playing techniques.
On the other side we have a legend in the making: Andy Moor, guitarist of the world-famous Dutch anarcho-punk band The Ex. Over the years, their radical, powerful music has been enriched with the input of essential musicians such as New-York cellist Tom Cora or Ethiopian saxophonist Getatchew Mekuria. In parallel, Andy has been collaborating with innovating artists like Colin McLean and Yannis Kyriakides.
The rough and tense music the duet play together blazes up in carefully-controlled moments of noise catharsis. While Moor delivers masterful pounding shreds of electric sound, Sehnaoui builds up abrasive acoustic textures and a new language appears, reminiscent of minimalism, free-rock, fire music, and free improvisation. Exhilarating.
MRI by Patricia Bosshard and Simon Grab
Award winners of the LUFF 2009 Creation Contest
Concert and official release of their LP/CD MIR
MRI uses actual MRI sound samples as raw material, with very little transformation, so rich are their natural qualities. Here, creativity lies within the two artists’ ability to construct an atmosheric landscape of extreme, electronic sound effects. As listeners, we plunge into a universe made up of sonic matter and sensations which reach out to the deeper layers of our brains and play around with the molecules in our bodies.
The live performance puts us in near-real-life conditions, thanks to a complex set-up of speakers which surround the audience.
On the LP: 2 tracks and 10 loops
On the CD: 2 bonus tracks and a sample library consisting of 80 original sounds.
Edition limited to 300 copies.

Le Grand Frisson - The Great Thrill
Suite for Eight Improvisers
- Patricia Bosshard : violin,
- Vinz Vonlanthen: guitar,
- Cyril Bondi: drums,
- Jean-Jacques Pedretti: trombone,
- Bernhard Göttert: cello,
- Laurent Bruttin: clarinets,
- Yannick Barman: trumpet,
- Christophe Berthet: saxophones, composition, conducting.
This project came from a fancy to compose a suite and commit it to a group of improvisers.
The final shape of the piece is undefined, being based on very simple themes made up of textures, dynamics, and movements specific to each instrument. What comes out of it is a tremor, a flow of emotions which spreads around, evolves and builds up to... the Great Thrill.
The Great Thrill is also an improvisation orchestra based on the trio Berthet-Vonlanthen-Bondi. It brings together musicians from all over Switzerland, whose musical backgrounds are as diverse as jazz, contemporary, classical, and improvised and experimental music.
